Design Highlights
Jonah Gutierrez
Collaborative work that is modifiable, functional, durable, and visually striking is the ultimate goal.
2018
Although the year is still new, I have been the Technical Director for a company, hired as the Lighting and Scenic Designer for prominent productions in the D-FW area and am now booked through the Fall.

As Dreams Are Made On
"If one looks at the history of silent theater and film, we find that facial expressiveness and body movement, complemented by music and lighting (and of note here: Jonah Gutierrez’ lighting successfully and professionally adds another dimension to the show)," - Brian Wilson
2017
2017 was a busy year that included a collaborative production with Theatre Three, an eight week tour sponsored by the Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs, and a show hand-selected to be presented as part of the Elevator Project at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre. My work from this time utilized techniques like modular scenic design, live sound mixing, and lighting using unconventional mediums such as the use of christmas lights to make stars.
Medea Myth, Animal VS Machine, Midas
"Audiences can expect a dark, frenetic and engaging interpretation of this complex mythology." - Jennifer Davis-Laam

"Jonah Gutierrez designed the marvelous lighting. With only a few instruments he conveys time, place, mood, and are synchronized beautifully with the uncredited sound design and music along with the action on stage." - John Garcia

"The students loved the show and the relationship between the theater and the school continued with Prism Movement Theatre performing short shows, teaching the students stage-combat skills and coaching a student showcase production of Wendy. Colangelo was so impressed by the painting the students did for Wendy, he spoke with Parrott and Gutierrez about having them create art for Midas." - Nancy Churnin

2016
Although 2016 was a lighter year in terms of theatrical work, I was appointed the Co-Artistic Director for Prism Movement Theatre, and collaborated with Cara Mia as a Carpenter, sand rain Designer (yes we made sand rain), and Lighting Operator.

Teotl and Persephone
"Other than the movement-based acting, this piece relies entirely upon the set design, the sand box and all of the sand elements (not giving anything away here)" - Teresa Marrero

"Upstage behind a backlit muslin scrim appears Hades (Josh Porter), god of the Underworld, in shadow. The shadow work is engaging and aesthetically perfect for the Hades sections." - Janice L. Jackson
2014-2015
I spent my first two years in Dallas working on developing a new artistic direction in theatre while intelligently utilizing the smaller budgets available to me. I explored utilizing one specific medium for a show, hidden doors, projection, and collaborating with local art galleries.

Galatea, Prism, Baba Yaga
"The seamless integration of the design elements of visual art (graphic design by Ace Anderson), body movement (those beautiful and thrilling aerial silks!) along with some impressive nonverbal acting chops from the whole ensemble—not to mention original music by Fabricio CF, who uses an amplified acoustic guitar and violin on a looper to fashion the soundscape—is something to behold. And wait until you see the climactic scenes with paper flying everywhere." - M. Lance Lusk
